About Protect Health
A network of health professionals in Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United Kingdom who want reforms to how we are trained and regulated to be held to the evidence.
What we believe
Regulation should be proportionate. We are not against change, and we do not claim every reform is unsafe. We ask reformers to meet the standard set by right-touch regulation itself: identify the problem, show evidence of risk, check for unintended consequences, and review what happens. Too often a pilot becomes permanent before anyone has published whether it was safe. That is the gap this site exists to watch.
Who we are
[To be completed before launch] Who runs and funds the site, the professions and organisations our contributors come from, and any professional or commercial interests they hold. A site run by health professionals that argues about health workforce reform has interests, and readers deserve to see them.
Editorial standards
Every status is dated
Each reform in the tracker shows its status and the date we last checked it against a primary source: a government, regulator or court document. Where sources conflict, or only secondary reporting exists, we say so.
- In force
- Passed, not yet in force
- Decided, awaiting government
- Proposed / consulting
- On hold
- Paused or reversed
- Unverified
We label our claims
- Evidence: an empirical study, inquiry, coroner's finding, court judgment or official record.
- Survey: what members of a profession or the public told a poll. Useful, but opinion.
- Assertion: an argued position without data, including from organisations we agree with.
We give the other side
Every tracked reform quotes the government's or regulator's own rationale, and every analysis includes what proponents say. Major reforms also get a "The case for" page written from the proponents' own sources.
We use our own words
Library items link to the original publisher, with a short summary in our own words. We do not republish others' articles or images.
Corrections
If we have something wrong, tell us. We correct errors promptly and note the change on the page.
